Audi service charges?

So the better-half's 2016 Audi C7 Audi A6 went into Audi for a DSG box service.
while there they mentioned the cam belt change was overdue, at this I was a little surprised at the price, just want some second opinions if it's just me who has slipped into another reality?

They also suggested replacing all 4 tyres, as they were worn ....with only 4mm of tread left on them.

And what is the cost?  It was £549 last time I checked, inc water pump.

I need assurance that I am not being too tight -so I need a cross section of society to guess!

On the tyres, I suspect they are hoping people just rubber stamp - replace all - it all felt like a scam to milk as much money as possible.
On top of that I had a few issues with the work done & lack of communication

I phoned a local specialist, it’s a fluid only system - so not the same as our Golfs, no filter they quoted £206, as a bench mark called Audi and it was £224, so just went with them.

Only one correct guess  to the guesser!
It is £1200 for timing belt / pump / coolant change.

I really was expecting something in the £600-£900 range.
I asked how much their hourly rate for servicing is £154 - Strangely, after the experience I just had, I told them to go fornicate with themselves.

What engine is it? It can't be a 4 pot as Audi engines are usually longitudinal, therefore all the juicy bits are quickly exposed to the service technician like a lady of the streets.

If it's a funky V6 or something that needs to be put into the 'service position' (i.e. bumper and rad pack off) then the juicy bits require more cash to expose, like an only fans chick.

That is exactly why I am baulking at the price - it is a Longitudinal 4 pot diesel with OK space at the front - so unsure why so much
I have got a trusted garage lined up, estimating £225 for labour, and will source the parts/kit from TPS.

Even taking 10% inflation into account, that is a ludicrous price, especially given it's not even close to the spanner wrestling match as the transverse 4 pots.

It's just German cars in general isn't it.  A mate of mine had the engine blow in his M135i recently. Bought it from new, 40k miles old, completely stock. BMW basically said screw you, £20K for a new engine, thanks. And oh, that'll be a £1500 fee (not disclosed at the time) for taking your busted engine out and inspecting it on top.

And the best bit is the engine let go due to a known design flaw with all the petrol & diesel straight sixes (sh*t main/big end bearings and sh*t oil control to them) but they were still like, yeah, bugger off mate. Not even the faintest hint of a goodwill gesture.

Anyway, slightly OT but, baaaaaah, screw German cars. I'm buying a Dacia Duster

Ignoring the prices, the thing that really got into my craw was their arrogance.

They just assumed that it had always been serviced by Audi.
In our ownership, we had the tracking done at the local tyre place.
Audi found some control arm bushes had worn - replacement of these did not include check of alignment - we got the A6 back with with steering wheel out of alignment -getting that resolved was a mixed bag + more wasted time.

They quoted £200 for fuel filter replacement - it had been only been replaced previously at Audi Edinburgh - I declined, as I had replaced it in the last 2 months. Cost from TPS for fuel & oil filters, oil & a new sump plug was a very reasonable £40 -when I crawled under I found rubber bushes on the filter incorrectly fitted and missing fasteners - great service!

Using dealerships is painful if you have some familarity with working on cars.

The desk staff are used to dealing with people who drop the car off and then pay whatever the bill is when they collect it.

They all write you that report showing what they recommend be replaced, half worn tyres, 1000 mile old brakes, out of date air in the boot.

I take my cars for cambelts at an independent I've used for years. They aren't cheap but they do good work and aren't so big they don't care how they treat you.

All other work I do myself. I have had plenty of bad experiences with main dealers that have burnt me.

You're right though.  You can tell just by how dealerships are laid out these days that they cater mainly for the ignorant masses.  It's all a bit John Lewis with the white walls, soft furnishings, pot plants, coffee machines and fancy desks. The "Parts" desks have gone, so now you have to wander around the showroom like an imbecile, trying to make eye contact with someone who is deliberately ignoring you, just to ask where to get parts from.

That is exactly the kind of arrogance LC5F speaks of in Audi dealers (and BMW).  We're too good to acknowledge you, p1ss off pleb, unless you want to buy a grotesque Q7 off us.
